Este libro es una actualización y ampliación del anterior "Control Numérico y programación". El anterior estaba basado íntegramente en el control FAGOR 8025 y tenía un apéndice de actualización con el control 8055. Esta nueva versión está ahora enfocado íntegramente en el 8055 pero mantiene también la programación del 8025 y además incorpora un apéndice de actualización del control 8070.
El libro está enfocado al aprendizaje, consulta y actualización de la programación en control numérico general basado en el sistema ISO y de forma específica en la programación de los controles referenciados arriba, sirviendo de base para todos el 8055.
Se ha actualizado el tratamiento de los sistemas de coordenadas y de las estructuras de programación, así como los capítulos de información general del control numérico que sirven de forma genérica para todos los sistemas.
Todos los controles ISO tienen estructuras comunes en su forma básica, por lo que todo lo aquí expuesto puede ser válido como estructura general.
Mantiene la misma estructura que la versión anterior, es decir la programación sigue una estructura didáctica de fácil comprensión para el lector, creciendo la dificultad del aprendizaje de forma progresiva y no siguiendo una estructura numérica de las diferentes órdenes de programación, lo que le da una estructura de curso práctico.
Se siguen manteniendo los mismos apartados de la versión anterior: Descripción, Formato, Parámetros, Operativa, Ejemplo, Programa y Comentario al ejemplo.
Todas las órdenes estudiadas contienen ejemplos perfectamente detallados y comentados.

La figura del doctor Fausto, personaje legendario que vende su alma al demonio a cambio del disfrute de la vida mediante el logro de todos los impulsos de la voluntad, fue recreada desde el Renacimiento por diversos literatos, pero fue J. W. Goethe (1749-1832) quien enriqueció la leyenda y le confirió un profundo valor filosófico y humano. En su “Fausto”, publicado en dos partes (1808 y 1832), la búsqueda de lo absoluto y de la plenitud vital convierte al personaje en un prototipo del espíritu siempre insatisfecho del hombre romántico y en un símbolo del destino de la humanidad. Sin embargo, como apunta Francisco Ayala, esta obra cumbre de la literatura “no nos da un arquetipo humano, como don Juan o el rey Lear o Tartufo […] En verdad, todo lo que acontece a Fausto a lo largo del poema no constituye su tragedia: su tragedia no es algo en que se realiza su vida, sino que es precisamente la vida misma”.
